Baby Ciara arrived 4 weeks ago. It’s hard work looking after a 14 month old and a newborn and it is very hard to find time to take photos of the new arrival but here are a few that I managed to take when she was a week old.

After years (literally) of ordering sample thank you cards I have finally found Thank You cards that meet the right balance between quality and price. There are no shortage of companies supplying average priced poor quality cards. I have received many of these in the post over the years from friends who have gotten married or had a baby. There are also many many companies doing fantastic quality cards but charging exorbitant prices for the service.

As a photographer it is important to me that my images are printed properly. It doesn’t do me any good if my name is attached to inferior quality printing. I am also well aware that people are very cautious about not spending more than they have to these days. With these issues in mind I am now delighted that I have found the ideal printer and whats even better is that they are an Irish company.

So if anybody is looking for Thank You cards from photos I have taken or their own photos I would be happy to order them for you. Here are the prices:

First wedding after having a baby…

I am very late in putting up this post. 6 weeks ago I photographed my first wedding since having Róisín. It was on a beautifully sunny St Patricks Day in my home county of Mayo (in Tourmakeady and later in Claremorris). Martina and Kevin and their bridal party were an absolute pleasure to work with. Martina was a bridesmaid at a wedding I did last year so we were not complete strangers. Tourmakeady is a great place to have a wedding, the waterfall and the wooded area around it are fabulous. If only every church had such a beauty spot beside it.

Anyway, here are a few snaps of the gorgeous couple:

You would think being a photographer I would be taking photos of my own little girl every chance I get. I never realised until now how much time it takes to look after a baby! So on Friday I finally got around to taking some long overdue shots of Róisín at 15 weeks old. Very happy with how they came out. She was only loving being a model for the afternoon.

Restoration of old photos

Unfortunately there is no quick fix to restore old damaged photos, it is a very manual where every spec of dust has to be manually touched up. Oh how I would love some software package to have a “fix my photo” button but no such luck. Even though it is a very manual process the results can be excellent. Next week I will be restoring some 40 year old wedding photos, in the meantime I have been fixing up some old photo of us when we were kids, they were not badly damaged but they come out a lot better with a little love and attention.

PS how cute were we!

Why I like photographing babies

Baby photography is great because babies are the cutest things in the world. I have never had a parent that didn’t absolutely adore the photographs of their babies. Because babies change so fast by the time the prints are developed the baby is often completely different. To be honest I didn’t notice this so much until I had my own little girl Róisín 14 weeks ago. When I look back at the photos I took of here while we were in hospital she looks completely different. Because of this I have decided to launch a new package that helps to capture the many stages of a babies development. Keep your eyes on my blog for updates very soon.

Why I like photographing Weddings

I concentrate on photographing weddings because this is what I love to do most. I became a photographer recently after I got married myself. I think part of the reason was to help me to still keep weddings a part of my life because I enjoyed organising mine so much. I absolutely love being involved in other peoples. As a photographer I find myself doing far more than taking photos on a wedding day. I have been know to close dresses where bridesmaids all have their nails done and cant get the loops over the tiny buttons (I carry a crochet hook in my bag of tricks for this), clean dresses (thanks baby wipes), fix hair, fix bouquets, pin flowers onto groom and relatives, adjust men’s ties/cravats, remind brides that they are about to leave the house and they have no jewellery on, make tea, dress flower girls and the list goes on. Most of the time none of the bridal party are married and honestly don’t have a clue what happens, thankfully I am only to happy to be there helping out!

Weddings are such a happy occasion for everybody and I am privileged to be involved in so many of them. I love being part of such a special day and helping to keep it relaxed and fun. I have yet to leave a wedding after my days work without a smile on my face. If only every days work could be as enjoyable.
